About Me
Growing up my family fostered children. I was surrounded by children who had complex communication needs. At an early age I recognised that I wanted to help children of all ages and abilities to talk & interact. This inspired me to go and train as a Speech and Language Therapist (SaLT).
I have been working as a SaLT since 2009. The first six years of my career were in the NHS. Wanting to provide a more person centred provision of speech and language therapy, I moved into the private sector in 2015. I have had the privilege of providing speech and language therapy in a variety of settings over the years; health centres, nurseries, mainstream schools, special schools (MLD, PMLD & SLD), specialist Autism schools and homes. I have a vast experience working with 2-19 year olds and adults who present with a variety of different speech, language and communication needs. I also specialise in working with adults who have Complex Needs and/or Learning Disabilities.
Since qualifying as a SaLT I have done extensive further training. A few areas of further training include, PECs (Picture Exchange Communication), talking mats, FRIENDS (social emotional skills), ELKLAN, Attention Autism, TEACCH (TEACCH values; Teaching, Expanding, Appreciating, Collaborating & Cooperating, Holistic), sensory processing difficulties, colourful semantics, total communication approaches, attachment difficulties and intensive interaction.
I set up independent practice in January 2019. It has been a life altering journey for me and I have been able to impact families and services in a way that just wasn’t possible before I became an independent SaLT.
